Measurement for our planet

Providing confidence in climate action

What is measurement for our planet?

The Measurement for our Planet initiative shines a spotlight on how NPL is delivering solutions for climate science and emissions measurements.

It allows us to showcase how we are supporting the innovation that will help drive the decarbonisation of power, heat, manufacturing, agriculture and transport.

Why is metrology important in tackling climate change?

As the UK’s National Metrology Institute, the expertise, facilities and capabilities at NPL have a crucial role to play in ensuring confidence in the measurements and data which underpins decision making for climate mitigation actions.

Measurement for our planet focuses on six areas of climate change:

Metrology expertise that provides confidence in climate data

Climate measurement including earth observation
