Understanding durability and performance

We carry out the following tests on proton-exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells and electrolysers:

  • Single cell and short stack testing up to 2 kW (PEM fuel cells)
  • PEM water electrolyser testing up to 80 A
  • Instrumented single cell testing - in situ measurement of potential, humidity, temperature, localised current density
  • Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (bulk and localised)
  • Corrosion testing of metallic bipolar plates / current collectors
  • Electrochemical characterisation of electrocatalysts
  • In situ measurement of hydrogen impurity concentration using gas chromatography
  • Imaging and dimensional metrology of membrane-electrode assemblies and other fuel cell components, including scanning electron microscopy
