NPL receives five IOP awards

IOP awards ceremony recently took place celebrating 2020-2022 winners

The IOP awards celebrate outstanding achievements in physics and contributions to the scientific community. The recent IOP awards ceremony celebrated over 100 award winners from 2020-2022 which saw NPL collect five.

NPL award winners included:

Warda Heetun received the Technician award for her outstanding contributions to measurement science and establishing the world’s first standard for quantitative nuclear medicine imaging. (NPL scientists win IOP Awards - NPL)

Jamie Mewburn-Crook received the Apprentice award for producing bone-tissue equivalent thermoplastic and his support in developing a 3D-printed full-size pelvis phantom employing this material to test prototype gamma-ray detection probes for cancer treatments. (NPL scientists win IOP Awards - NPL)

Professor Bajram Zeqiri received the James Joule Medal and Prize for distinguished contributions to the development of acoustic measurement techniques and sensors. In particular, underpinning the provision of international standards enabling the safe clinical application of medical ultrasound. (NPL Fellow receives IOP award - NPL)

Dr Peter Thompson received the Richard Glazebrook Medal and Prize for his outstanding leadership of NPL and the sustained impact of metrology on the UK’s prosperity and quality of life. (2022 IOP Richard Glazebrook medal - NPL)

NPL also received the Apprenticeship Employer award for developing an apprentice programme which has inspired the next generation of scientists and engineers and enabled innovation to thrive by fostering energic, passionate and talented young people.
