Thermocouples with ultra-low uncertainties and exceptional drift performance
NPL supplies platinum/palladium (Pt/Pd) thermocouples which feature a novel structural design, which makes the thermocouple exceptionally robust. The design is the fruit of extensive research and development.
The chief benefits of Pt/Pd thermocouples are extremely low drift and exceptionally good thermoelectric homogeneity, which means that very low uncertainties are achievable, and calibrations remain valid for long periods of exposure to high temperatures.
These Pt/Pd thermocouples are offered with a full UKAS (ISO 17025) accredited calibration. They are constructed from wires (0.5 mm in diameter and typically 2 m in length) in an alumina insulator (typically 0.7 m long).
The thermocouples can be purchased with or without cold-junction attachments to copper extension leads.
NPL currently offers UKAS (ISO 17025) calibrations up to 1500 °C. The calibration uncertainty (k = 2) can be as low as ±0.2 °C over the range 0 °C to 1100 °C, rising to ±0.55 °C at 1330 °C, and ±0.72 °C at 1500 °C.
