Jacques-Olivier Gaudron

Senior engineer

Jacques-Olivier is a Senior engineer in the Optical Frequency Metrology group in the Time and Frequency department. He joined NPL in 2019, following 7 years working in the Oil and Gas industry developing fibre optic based sensors with applications ranging from CO2 sequestration to more sustainable oil exploration techniques. He studied for his undergraduate engineering degree at Ecole Centrale d’Electronique (Paris, France) and MSc and PhD at City, University of London. He holds the PhD in the field of fibre optic sensing.

He is currently developing electronic systems for the passive detection of seismic waves using optical fibres and develops electronic circuits for the group.  Additionally, Jacques-Olivier coordinates many activities, including data acquisition setups and signal distribution for a new clock evaluation facility in the Advanced Quantum Metrology Laboratory.  He is also the group’s champion for new products and innovation.

Jacques-Olivier is a Chartered Engineer and a Member of the Institute of Engineering and Technology.
