Professor Laura HarknessĀ is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Liverpool. She also holds a Personal Chair in Nuclear Physics.
Professor Laura Harkness is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Liverpool. She also holds a Personal Chair in Nuclear Physics. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a member of the Institute of Physics. She serves as Partner Director on the Board of the Henry Royce Institute for Advanced Materials.
Her research focuses on gamma-ray spectroscopy and imaging, developing novel radiation detectors and analytical techniques. These have applications in both discovery science — studying atomic nuclei — and societal challenges, including medical imaging and nuclear decommissioning.
Laura has led a national STFC-funded research network in cancer diagnosis, with membership spanning more than 50 organisation
