Group Head of Engineering and Technology Development The Weir Group plc
Chris Poole is Group Head of Engineering and Technology Development for the Weir Group plc. In this role, he oversees Weir's innovation and technology strategies. He also sits on the board of, and supervises Weir's Advanced Research Center (WARC), a virtual network of academic partners which delivers fundamental and applied research, and incorporates a technology scouting function. He is also the Chairman of Weir's Engineering Excellence Committee (EEC), a cross-divisional team of engineering and technology leaders responsible for driving collaboration and best practice across the group.
Chris supervises Weir's internal engineering and technology centre (a team of 180 engineers and technologists) based in Bangalore, India. He also administers Weirs' Technology Advisory Board (WTAB), a group of independent, external advisors who provide guidance and advice on Weir's innovation and technology strategies.
Chris was previously the vice president of engineering for Weir's Oil & Gas division where he was responsible for driving innovation and new product development undertaken by teams in the UK, Italy, the Middle East and the USA. Before that, he was the Vice President of Engineering at Weir SPM, where he led a team of engineers responsible for the design and development of very high pressure reciprocating pumps and flow control equipment for hydraulic fracturing and cementing applications.
Prior to joining Weir in 2007, Chris worked in a number of senior roles in the automotive industry both in the UK and latterly in Michigan. Chris has a bachelor's degree in engineering (BSc) and a master's degree in business administration (MBA). He is a charted engineer (CEng) and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (FIMechE) in the UK, and a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) in the USA. Chris has been with Weir for ten years and is based in Fort Worth, Texas.
