Changes to the NPL Board

NPL appoints four new members to its board

With extensive knowledge and experience across a range of sectors, the four new members of NPL’s board, Dr Carol Bell, Andrew Chang, Dr Robert Sorrell and Catriona Schmolke, will work in collaboration with the current Board members and NPL’s executive team to continue to uphold NPL to the highest standards of effective governance, corporate values and ethical behaviour.

The new board members will join current members in providing strategic leadership and authoritative decision making for NPL. Between them they cover a breadth of industries, have widespread diverse business, academic, public and private sector experience with extensive geographical reach.

Dr Carol Bell is an experienced industrialist and financier, she sits on the board of the Development Bank of Wales and chairs its Investment Committee. She is also a member of the Council of Research England and is a founder director of a network for non-executive directors to foster better discussion of climate risk and decarbonisation strategies on company boards. Carol is the first woman to serve on the board of the Football Association of Wales and leads its Sustainability strategy. 

 

 

Catriona Schmolke brings an international perspective to the role with considerable focus on opportunities for growth for NPL, grounded in 36 years of consultancy experience in the private sector across multiple markets. She is an independent consultant on demystifying ESG, leading through transformation and executive coaching and mentoring and has over a decade of experience training others to be successful in business development.

Dr Robert Sorrell brings over thirty years of R&D experience across industry, academia, government, and the charity sectors. He is experienced in working at all levels, from start-ups, to driving complex multi-million-dollar projects involving diverse stakeholders and international teams.

Andrew Chang has a broad spectrum of experience in governance and risk management in the engineering, healthcare and educational sectors. Andrew has held a number of Internal audit and consultancy roles with Stantec UK Ltd, MWH UK Ltd, Kelda Group and Yorkshire Water plc, National Power and the Central Electricity Generating Board.

 

Professor Graeme Reid, Chair of the NPL Board said: “I am delighted to welcome Dr Carole Bell, Catriona Schmolke, Dr Robert Sorrell, and Andrew Chang to the Board. Their distinguished experience combined with that of existing board members, will bring both new and diverse perspectives to the board, enabling us to continue to provide strategic leadership for NPL.”
