Catriona Schmolke is the non-executive Director for strategic business development on the NPL board and has been honoured with a CBE, recognising her extraordinary contributions to engineering and sustainability.

Catriona is an independent consultant on demystifying ESG, leading through transformation and executive coaching and mentoring and has over a decade of experience training others to be successful in business development.

Sir Jim McDonald has been appointed a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the British Empire for services to Engineering, to Education and to Energy. Knight and Dame Grand Cross is the most senior rank of the Order of the British Empire. Fewer than 115 have been awarded in the past 60 years, with only 27 awarded this century. Sir Jim is the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Strathclyde, the President of the Royal Academy of Engineering and a non-executive director at NPL. In June 2012, Sir Jim was knighted in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours List for services to education, engineering and the economy.

Professor Graeme Reid, Chair of the NPL Board, said: ‘I am delighted that two of our Board members have been recognised with such senior Honours.  My warm congratulations go to Sir Jim McDonald and Catriona Schmolke.’

Of the honours, Dr Peter Thompson, CEO, NPL said: “Congratulations to Catriona and Sir Jim for receiving these honours. It is a pleasure to work closely with them both at NPL and I’m delighted that their contributions to the community have been recognised.”
