Residual stress in polymeric mouldings GPG10

Thermoplastic polymer mouldings contain residual stresses that are the consequence of differential cooling rates through the thickness of the mould. Injection moulding, thickwalled blow moulding and profile extrusion can all give rise to residual stress, the magnitude of which will depend on the material, process parameters and process route. Thermoset mouldings may contain residual stress also, as a result of thermal gradients present when curing is completed.
