Measurement training improves efficiency for Lockheed Martin

Lockheed Martin joins Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems as an NPL accredited organisation to deliver in-house measurement courses for its staff, saving time and money

Case study

The challenge

Lockheed Martin is a global security and aerospace company. Its UK arm works in areas such as cybersecurity, energy and space, and employs around 2,000 people at 16 sites across the country. The firm's manufacturing and engineering staff generally need a fundamental level of training in dimensional measurement, with many also requiring more advanced training.

The solution

As the UK's National Measurement Institute, we are uniquely placed to provide measurement expertise to industry and to help apply this knowledge to quality and production procedures. Our Dimensional Measurement training includes four levels, ranging from first principles, all the way up to a potential sabbatical at NPL.

NPL Training is generally offered via one of our seven training providers. However, companies can also apply for NPL accreditation, which can be particularly beneficial for those with a large or ongoing training requirement. Lockheed Martin has now joined Rolls-Royce and BAE Systems to become accredited to deliver in-house measurement courses.

The impact

Through its NPL accreditation, staff at Lockheed Martin are learning about the importance of good measurement practice and the right measurement behaviours, at times that best suit them. The company can even offer training to its suppliers, meaning the organisation can have greater confidence in its supply chain.
