Measurement for our planet

Ask the experts

Climate measurement through Earth Observation

Do you have a question for our experts?

NPL will be on the Space4Climate (S4C) exhibition stand in the Green Zone at  COP26 in Glasgow on the 2, 4, 8 and 9 November 2021.

NPL is leading international activities to improve the quality and reliability of Earth Observation data. Along with other space sector partners we are working on Earth Observation climate missions that play an important role in monitoring climate change from space.

During COP26, our experts will be on hand to answer your questions. From how we conduct research, to how to get into a career in science, find out more about our people and the work they do in support of climate action.

Space4Climate (S4C) Exhibition Stand at COP26 – Ask our experts

The virtual sessions will feature some of our very latest research including how we detect changes in ocean colour, the role deserts have to play in providing ground-based calibration sites and how the moon is being used as a calibration point. This is your chance to ask the experts!

How does Earth Observation help us understand climate change?
How is your work at NPL making a difference?
How did you get into your role?
How is the work you are doing contributing to climate action right now?
What climate missions are NPL working on?
How do these missions work?
Why is metrology important in Earth Observation?
What does TRUTHS do that other climate missions don’t?
What is our role in TRUTHS?
What will Microcarb do?
What is our role in Microcarb?
Why do we need to use the deserts, sun and moon as calibration reference points?

TRUTHS_iconic_v2-2mb.jpgClimate missions offer a unique opportunity to capture global data on climate over time. NPL is leading international activities to improve the quality and reliability of Earth Observation data. TRUTHS, an NPL conceived climate  mission, is an example of this. Ask the team, and Professor Nigel Fox who has been working on the concept for 20 years, about the important role TRUTHS has to play in monitoring climate change from space.
