The NPL Quantum Programme

NPL's quantum collaborations

Supporting the UK quantum industry

We work very closely in partnership with quantum businesses across the UK to ensure they have the measurement support they need to progress their quantum technologies through to market. NPL is heavily involved in 23 projects as a part of the Commercialising Quantum Technologies programme run by Innovate UK (iUK). We are a partner in every technical theme of this programme, in projects of all scales.  We are also a key collaborator in 3 projects within the Quantum Technologies for Fundamental Physics (QTFP) programme run by STFC. Across both the QTFP and Commercialising Quantum Technologies programmes, we are working with 39 academic and 60 industrial partners.

Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund

Within the NQTP there has been a dedicated programme delivered by Innovate UK to support industry in commercialising quantum technologies. NPL is a partner in 23 industry-led product development projects, using our facilities to directly support the growth of a quantum industry. NPL is a partner in at least one project in every theme and every call of this programme. We are providing test and characterisation capability in development projects for sensors and timing, communications and many aspects of quantum computing, including superconducting technologies, ion traps and software.

Quantum Technologies for Fundamental Physics

NPL is a partner in three projects of the QTFP programme funded by STFC as part of the National Quantum Technology Programme (NQTP). The QTFP brings together STFC and EPSRC funded physicists, quantum scientists and quantum technologists to create an environment to exploit quantum technology for addressing some of the outstanding questions of fundamental physics.
