NPL’s temperature group has received an award for excellence in temperature measurements instrumentation development. These developments have already impacted a number of sectors by improving efficiency, productivity, and safety. Examples include, but are not limited to, ship building, steel manufacturing, automotive manufacturing, aerospace heat treatment, nuclear decommissioning and waste storage, waste incineration, and healthcare.

According to the InstMC, "The Cornish Award is given to an individual, group or company that has excelled in some dimension of scientific instrument making within industry, academia, national or international laboratories. This award is sponsored by the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers.”

Jonathan Pearce, Science Area Leader of the thermometry team, said “I am delighted that the excellence of the team’s instrumentation development has been recognised with the Cornish Award. We continue to seek to maximise impact with these developments, in particular by improving process control.”
