Young physicists celebrated in IOP Quantum on the Clock competition

School students showcase their quantum creativity

1 minute read

The IOP’s QQQ (Quantum Optics, Quantum Information and Quantum Control) group has announced the winners of its Quantum on the Clock competition.

The competition, sponsored by NPL, challenges A-Level and equivalent students to create videos explaining any aspect of quantum science or technology in under three minutes, individually or in teams.

A panel of 17 expert judges from a range of quantum and science communication backgrounds judge the entries based on four criteria: creativity, clarity, accuracy and engagement. The top winners, runners-up and highly commended entries were selected from over 120 entries from across the UK and Ireland, with the full list published here.

Andrew Hanson, Outreach Manager at NPL and one of the judges, commented: “As a physicist film maker working in science communication, I was very impressed with the depth of understanding and clarity of explanation in many of the videos. The students’ enthusiasm and technical excellence made it a pleasure to watch every one of them.”
