NPL scientist awarded prestigious Roberto Sorrentino Prize

NPL scientist receives an international prize for distinguished technical achievements

Dr Xiaobang Shang, of the Electromagnetic Technologies Group, has been awarded the highly prestigious Roberto Sorrentino Prize. This prize recognises an outstanding young professional who has distinguished technical achievements within the microwave field. This international prize is given annually and is sponsored by the European Microwave Association (EuMA), RF Microtech and SIEm.

The award was presented to Dr Shang at the European Microwave Association 2022 Conference, which was held in Milan, Italy, in September 2022 and attended by approximately 4300 attendees from around the world.

This award was named in remembrance of Professor Roberto Sorrentino who had a thriving career of leadership, meritorious achievement, creativity and outstanding contributions in the field of microwave theory and techniques. The award is composed of a medal, a certificate, and a financial prize.

Dr Xiaobang Shang, Senior research scientist, said “I feel extremely privileged to be awarded the Roberto Sorrentino prize. This is the highest achievement of my professional career, and I will continue to contribute to my field of research with the confidence that this level of recognition has given me.”
