Raphaela Baesso

Senior Scientist and Quality Lead

Raphaela received her B.Sc. degrees in Industrial Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and M.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from the Federal Fluminense University, in 2011, 2016 and 2013, respectively. In 2018, she received her Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology from the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro). She developed an online and inline method for monitoring biofuels production and quality using low power ultrasound, which translated into several research grants, publications and a filed patent. She joined NPL’s Ultrasound and Underwater Acoustics group in 2019.

Raphaela is currently a Senior Scientist and Quality Lead. She has extensive experience in metrology and ultrasound. Her main activity focus at present includes:

  • The development of the optical primary standard for acoustic pressure to extend the calibration frequency range of medical devices;
  • The development, design and characterisation of tissue mimicking materials and phantoms and
  • Quality assurance of projects and services provided by NPL’s Ultrasound and Underwater Acoustics group.
