Giuseppe Lorusso

Giuseppe Lorusso

Senior scientist

Giuseppe obtained his PhD in nuclear physics from the Michigan State University in 2010, and worked at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) in Japan before joining the NPL Nuclear Metrology Group in 2015. He is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the University of Surrey and a Visiting researcher at RIKEN.

At NPL, his main focus is on the application of novel technologies in nuclear metrology and nuclear data. These includes the use of quantum sensors, laser weakfield accelerators, and ultra-stable low current ammeters. Giuseppe has built special links with the Quantum Metrology group at NPL, with the Strathclyde University, and the Australian National University. A special focus of his work is the development of Auger-electron spectroscopy techniques in support of radiobiology and nuclear medicine aimed at realising the first DNA-targeted radiotherapy and improve the understanding of the collateral damage cause by Auger emitting radioisotope currently used for diagnostic and therapy.

He has supervised 3 PhD students, sits on the scientific board of the beta-delayed neutron emission bRIKEN project sponsored in the UK by the UK-Nuclear Data Network, and is a member of the Decay Data Evaluation project (DDEP) and of the Institute of Physics (IOP).
