Daniel Povey

Higher Scientist

Daniel Povey is a Higher Scientist in the Manufacturing Metrology (MFGMET) group at NPL, based in Huddersfield, where he leads the group’s work in Digital Engineering. He obtained a Master’s degree in Physics from the University of Exeter in August 2018 and has worked at NPL ever since. He is a Member of the Institute of Measurement and Control, and co-chairs the Smart Design Network’s “Enabling Engineering Collaboration” Working Group.

His work primarily involves solving measurement challenges in the world of industrial digitalisation and the Industry 4.0 technologies that are associated. In his time at NPL, Daniel has led and contributed to a wide variety of projects. These have involved applying measurement science to improve applications and devices such as smart water valves, medical rehabilitation devices, PPE testing processes, and most recently, improving productivity for Industrial CNC machines.

Part of Daniel’s time is spent working with NPL’s Prosperity team; where he brings his technical expertise to engage and maximise impact with other organisations that also work within the Digital Engineering space.
