Supporting the increased drive for earlier diagnosis of disease, personalised medicine and new drugs and treatments

We are accelerating innovation and implementation, whilst maintaining safety and confidence

The UK is contending with the effect that changing demographics will make to the quality of UK healthcare. An ageing population, increasing antibiotic resistance, more people with chronic illnesses and lifestyle factors are all proving challenging to this innovative and dynamic sector.

Advances in genetics and molecular biology mean we have a better understanding of the complex causes of diseases and have the ability to design treatments that are tailor-made for individual patients. But drug development is still expensive and painstaking, and is slowing the development of much needed medicine.

NPL is working to tackle some of the world’s biggest health challenges, from reducing attrition rates in drug development to treating cancer and dementia, as well as creating new antibiotics. We work with manufacturers of diagnostic equipment and medical devices, government, researchers and pharamaceutical companies to standardise and improve diagnosis and treatment techniques.
