Cyrus has joined NPL’s quantum team to lead the NPL Quantum Programme in support of the National Quantum Technologies Programme (NQTP).

NPL plays a major role across the whole of the UK Quantum Programme by providing industry access to our technical measurement capabilities and expertise to develop secure the supply chain from SMEs to large corporations, supporting the development of standards that will underpin the emerging industry and developing the short- and long-term skills pipeline that will be needed as the industry grows.

Cyrus started his career as a Nuclear Physics researcher, completing an EngD at the University of Surrey in Nuclear Physics and Engineering, specialising in Isotope production, fission product cross sections and standardisations, as well as actinide chemistry.

Since joining NPL in 2011, Cyrus has held a number of roles including as a Senior Research Scientist working on medical and environmental nuclear data, and within NPL’s partnerships team, where he was responsible for a multi-million pound portfolio of business for both the nuclear and space sectors.

Cyrus brings to the role his strong industry focus and partnerships across government and industry.

Of the role Cyrus said “I am delighted to be taking on this new role in what is an extremely exciting year for quantum. My aspiration is to work with our scientists and engineers at NPL to develop the commercialisation of quantum technologies to deliver real world applications, whilst continuing to develop world-class science that delivers impact for the UK on the global stage.”
