We develop new measurement methods and standards and expand technology uptake. We develop and deliver emission measurements to regulators and plant operators for high value compliance and bespoke investigative work that addresses gaps in the emission measurement market. These exploit NPL's Differential Absorption Lidar (DIAL) technology, the high sensitivity complex specification capabilities of our diffusive monitoring facilities and methane monitoring using high volume sampling techniques. We are developing an innovative delivery model for DIAL. We play a major role in the national and international standardisation bodies which are developing the standards and protocols to meet the increasingly challenging measurement requirements and harmonise activity in this area, including CEN TC264 and BSI EH/2.
As a result of our fundamental work in developing emission measurement techniques and methods, leadership at CEN, operation of a state-of-the-art range of stack emissions monitoring services and unique stack and particulate simulator facilities, NPL is one of the few organisations that can validate all parts of the new CEN standards being developed.
