Richard Rusby is an Emeritus Fellow in Temperature Measurement. Richard Rusby's main scientific contribution has been in establishing temperature scales at low and ultra-low temperatures. His early work was to develop the rhodium-iron resistance thermometer as a reliable transfer standard, and derive the currently-used vapour pressure equations for 3He and 4He.
He was Head of Temperature Standards at NPL from 1981–2001 and as our representative on the CCT he was instrumental in the formulation of the International Temperature Scale of 1990 and the Provisional Low Temperature Scale of 2000, which extends the range from 1 K to 0.9 mK.
