Professor David Littlejohn is the Philips Professor of Analytical Chemistry at the University of Strathclyde and an Advisor to the Principal. He retired as Executive Dean of Science and Associate Principal in August 2018 having served 4 years in these roles. Prior posts included Associate Deputy Principal – Research (2010 – 2014) and Head of the Chemistry department (2005 – 2010). Professor Littlejohn was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1991 and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1998.

Professor Littlejohn was elected Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry in 1991 and Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1998.
In 1997, he co-founded the Centre for Process Analytics and Control Technology (CPACT), a multidisciplinary community of practice in process analysis and control. CPACT includes 40 companies and 18 universities and research institutes worldwide (www.cpact.com). He represents the University on CPACT’s Industrial Management Board and is a member of the NPL Joint Working Group, which reviews and develops the partnership between Surrey, Strathclyde, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, and NPL.
Professor Littlejohn has served on the supervisory and governing boards of the Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre (DHI), the Industrial Biotechnology Innovation Centre (IBioIC), and the Medicines Manufacturing Innovation Centre (MMIC), where he chaired the Technical Advisory Committee for five years.
He has published widely on topics in analytical chemistry.
