Christopher Chunnilall (B.Sc. Durham, Ph.D. King’s College London) was born in Guyana and joined NPL in 1995 after a period as a Research Fellow at KCL.
His early work at NPL concerned: the application of spectroscopic techniques to fibre-optics and materials science; few-photon metrology; spectrophotometry - leading NPL participation in Key Comparisons of spectral transmittance and diffuse reflectance.
Christopher’s current research addresses the measurement needs of quantum photonic technologies and the development of single-/few-photon techniques for metrology, leading NPL participation in numerous Innovate UK and European projects.
He is one of three vice-Chairs of the European Metrology Network for Quantum Technologies and leads its Quantum Photonics section, a Co-Investigator in the UK Quantum Communications Hub (2014-2024), and contributes to ETSI, ISO/IEC, CEN/CENELEC and BSI standardization activities on quantum photonic technologies.
