Abi Cheales joined NPL in January 2018 shortly after completing a postgraduate master’s in science and technology Studies at University College London. Prior to this, Abi completed a BSc in Physics with Astrophysics from the University of Bristol in 2016. More recently, she completed a City & Guilds Level 2 Diploma in Electrical Power Engineering – Distribution & Transmission alongside her work at NPL.
Abi joined NPL as a Scientist in the Electromagnetic Measurements Group, becoming the measurement service provider for the AC/DC Transfer and AC Power calibration services at NPL in 2020 and was promoted to Higher Scientist in 2022.
Abi’s primary role is to deliver UKAS accredited measurement services to customers and is able to conduct bespoke AC Power and Direct Current Low Frequency measurements. Outside of her measurement service provider role, Abi has growing involvement within the Electromagnetic Technologies Group; aiding with their research into ROCOF measurements and utilisation of the National Grid.
