Professor Tian Hong Loh, Principal Scientist and Science Area Leader for the Electromagnetic Technologies Group at NPL has been elevated to a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) (Fellow Class of 2026) in recognition of his contributions to over-the-air measurement techniques and pattern-reconfigurable antenna systems, which has significantly advanced measurement science supporting emerging electromagnetic technologies.
IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organisation, with over half a million members globally, dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. Being named an IEEE Fellow is one of the highest honours bestowed by IEEE, with fewer than 0.1% of voting members (approximately 300 individuals) selected annually. This prestigious distinction is awarded to individuals whose extraordinary accomplishments have contributed significant value to engineering, science and technology worldwide.
In addition to this fellowship, Professor Loh is also President of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI) UK Board, Chair of the European Association on Antennas and Propagation (EurAAP) Measurement Working Group, Visiting Professor at the University of Surrey, and Representative of the IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society (APS) at the IEEE Future Networks Technical Community (FNTC).
Professor Tian Hong Loh, NPL Principal Scientist and Science Area Leader for the Electromagnetic Technologies Group said: “I am truly delighted to be elevated to the grade of IEEE Fellow. This honour reflects the collective effort of everyone who has supported me throughout my journey. I extend my heartfelt gratitude to all my colleagues, collaborators, students, and mentors, who have been part of this journey.”
