Building confidence in AI through robust measurement
Join us for the official launch of the Centre for AI Measurement, a new UK initiative that will strengthen the scientific foundations for trustworthy AI.
Led by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), the Centre will develop and apply measurement science to improve how AI systems are tested, evaluated, validated, verified and monitored. Its work will help establish more robust, repeatable and comparable approaches to assessing AI performance and behaviour, including methods for defining what is being measured, quantifying uncertainty and generating reliable evidence about how systems perform in practice.

Express your interestThe Centre will work across research, industry, government, standards, and assurance communities to strengthen the UK’s AI testing and assurance ecosystem.
Its programme will span three core areas:
- advancing the measurement science foundations for AI testing and evaluation;
- supporting industry to develop, test and apply robust and novel assurance approaches in real-world contexts; and
- improving coordination, knowledge-sharing and capability across the wider ecosystem.
The launch event will introduce the Centre’s mission, scope and initial programme of work. Attendees will also learn how organisations can engage with the Centre through collaboration, research activities, participation in its wider network, and future funding and support opportunities.
The event will bring together leaders and practitioners from across industry, research, government and the AI assurance community to explore robust measurement can help build confidence in the development and deployment of AI.
