Helen Murugan

Helen graduated from the University of Manchester in 2011 with a PhD in Physical Chemistry. During her doctoral studies, she completed an industrial placement at the Advanced Institute for Science and Technology (AIST) in Tsukuba, Japan, collaborated with industrial partner Johnson Matthey, and contributed to the Supergen consortium, which supports the development of sustainable hydrogen technologies.

After completing her PhD, Helen spent three years as a Research Scientist at Element Six, where she researched the growth of synthetic diamond for industrial applications. She also owned and managed a dog grooming business for 10 years, gaining valuable experience in business operations and customer service.

Helen joined the Postgraduate Institute (PGI) in 2023. As Operations Manager, she leads the operational delivery of PhD programmes, oversees studentship management processes, and manages the delivery of PhD funding calls. She is passionate about supporting the next generation of scientists and engineers through her work at the PGI.
