Shirin Hussein is a Higher Scientist in the Optical Frequency Metrology group within the Time and Frequency department at NPL. She earned her PhD from University College London (UCL), where she focused on the digital implementation of innovative radio frequency (RF) multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) signal transmission techniques over fibre, using field-programmable gate arrays (FPGA). Following her PhD, Shirin pursued postdoctoral research in the Optical Networks Group (ONG UCL), starting in 2022. Her work centred on the physical layer aspects of optical networking.
