Phil works on laboratory testing of materials for oil and gas exploration and production, with particular emphasis on down-hole tubing, casing and drill-pipe.
Phil has 20 years' experience in the Electrochemistry and Corrosion Group at NPL, using the experience and knowledge gained from over 27 years' experience in research and development in the oil and exploration industry with BP Research, where he worked previously as a Materials and Corrosion Engineer. He has published 30 NPL Test Reports to third-party customers and previously authored numerous internal technical reports while employed by BP.
Phil focuses on corrosion test configuration for materials applied in the oil and gas industry, especially considering testing at high temperature and pressure. He is experienced in sour service testing, including handling and safety aspects of using hydrogen sulphide (H2S).
