Oliver Jackson
Higher Scientist
Oliver completed a BEng in Mechanical Engineering at Coventry University in 2020. In 2025, he completed a PhD in Engineering at the University of Warwick, specialising in experimental fluid dynamics. His thesis, ‘An experimental study of the dynamics of vortex rings in a rotating fluid’, led to the publication of a paper in the Journal of Fluid Mechanics, presenting new findings on the emission of inertial wave fields in water.
Oliver began his work in underwater acoustics when he joined the Underwater Acoustics team at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) in March 2026.
Current Interests
Oliver is a Research Scientist based at NPL’s main site in Teddington. His current research activities include:
- supporting the delivery of measurement services and the development of calibration methodologies
- characterisation and calibration of distributed acoustic sensing (DAS) systems
- analysis of hydrophone sensitivity over time
- ocean noise measurement and analysis.
