Since 2013 Mike has been employed by the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) as an economist. He now leads NPL’s analysis and evaluation team, performing impact analysis and supporting the development of business cases. Before joining NPL, he completed a PhD in economics, and has an undergraduate degree in physics.
Mike works closely with economists in the civil service and has served as a UK delegate to the OECD’s science and technology committee. He has been seconded to HMRC to support an evaluation of R&D tax credits, and was part of a team in GO-Science responsible for reviewing the effectiveness of the public funding directed at innovation, working under the leadership of the Government Chief Scientist.
