Martin Salter has worked in the RF and Microwave measurements group at NPL since September 1986. Initially he worked on the calibration of UHF and VHF antennas for EMC radiated emission measurements. During this time he was responsible for the design and analysis of calculable reference antennas for use on open area test sites and in anechoic chambers. More recently he has worked on traceable measurements of scattering parameters at microwave and millimetre-wave frequencies both on planar circuits such as printed circuit boards (PCBs) and also in metallic waveguide.
Martin is a visiting research fellow at the Advanced Technology Institute, University of Surrey. During 2015 he was a visiting researcher at the Korean Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS), Daejeon, South Korea.
Martin is a reviewer for various scientific journals, including IET Microwaves, Antennas and Propagation, IET Electronics Letters and IEEE Transactions on Microwave Theory and Techniques.
