For people, place, prosperity and planet, we deliver impact with measurement science

Kostas Despotelis

Kostas Despotelis

Business Development Manager

Kostas has a master’s degree in applied mathematical and physical sciences and an MSc in materials science and technology, both from the National Technical University of Athens. He received his PhD from the University of Manchester, which focused on nanotribology and chemical characterisation at the nanoscale and was fully sponsored by bp-ICAM.

Before joining NPL, Kostas worked as a research associate at the National Graphene Institute, where his research involved characterisation of 2D materials. He joined NPL in October 2021 as a higher scientist, working on standardisation of graphene and related 2D materials, and later made a career change into business development.

As a business development manager in energy systems and environment, Kostas utilises his scientific background and deep understanding of measurement challenges to show how metrology can be implemented in providing solutions. He mainly supports the areas of nuclear energy and decommissioning, energy gases, CCS and electrical grid.

Kostas is a professional member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining (IOM3).
