Jacques-Olivier (J-O) Gaudron is a Senior Engineer in the Optical Frequency Metrology group in the Time and Frequency department. He leads the optical fibre links team, responsible for dark fibres that transfer ultrastable time and frequency signals using several technologies from packet-based techniques to full optical transfer. Additionally, J-O is involved in the strategic planning for using optical fibres for time and frequency dissemination alongside technologies such as GNSS and Two-Way Satellite Time and Frequency Transfer (TWSTFT), ensuring resilience of this hidden utility.
J-O joined NPL in 2019, following several years working in the energy sector developing fibre optic-based sensors, in particular Distributed Acoustic Sensing. He holds a PhD from the University of London in the field of fibre optic sensing. J-O is a European Engineer (EUR ING) & Chartered Engineer. He also serves on both the steering and technical committees for the Special Interest Group on Time & Frequency Network (SIG-TFN) whose aim is to design, build and operate a fully integrated pan-European Network for the purpose of Time and Frequency transfer, hence facilitating the comparison of clock data across Europe.
