Huw Owen

Huw Owen is a Scientist in the Time & Frequency group working within NPLTime® providing accurate traceable time to industry. He joined NPL in 2020 after completing his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Surrey in 2019, inclusive of a year-long placement working on the Vulcan Laser at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.

In addition to working within NPLTime® Huw is also contributing towards the National Timing Centre (NTC) project and acts as the Quality Lead for the National Time Scale group.

Areas of interest

• Providing clock synchronisation through time transfer using Precision Time Protocol (PTP) for industrial applications.
• Development of a resilient time scale infrastructure for the UK, by building and linking a new atomic clock network distributed geographically in secure locations.
• Providing access to UTC(NPL) to industry through the development of Timing Nodes.
