Douglas Walker
Scientist
Douglas is a Scientist at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL). He completed an MChem degree at the University of Sussex and an MSc in Environmental Science at King's College London before joining NPL in 2023.
Douglas has expertise in aerosol particle counting and sizing, organic and elemental carbon measurements, black carbon analysis, and data automation. He supports the operation of the UK Particle Number and Concentration Network and helps calibrate air quality instruments, including differential mobility analysers (DMAs), condensation particle counters (CPCs), volatile particle removers (VPRs), and mobility particle size spectrometers (MPSSs).
His work focuses on improving calibration services and developing new measurement capabilities for air quality and aerosol metrology. His research includes using multi-way flow splitters and water-based CPCs for aviation measurements, helping to provide evidence that supports future standardisation and regulation.
