Darren is part of the Electronic and Magnetic Materials group at NPL. Having received his Masters in Physics from the University of Southampton in 2015, Darren joined NPL in January 2017 after some time working as technical support for a Telecommunications company.
His work is mainly focussed on delivery of measurement services such as characterisation of soft magnetic materials (SMM) and calibration of magnetic sensors and instruments. He supports development of new measurement capabilities and systems in response to industry requirements through the application of finite element modelling, CAD and 3D printing. Since being involved in SMM aging studies where the effects on magnetic properties of materials exposed to operational conditions were explored, Darren is currently developing a system for in situ measurements to characterise SMMs under stress.
