Dr. Andrei Baluna is a higher scientist within the Biometrology Group at NPL, specifically as part of the Engineering Biology (EngBio) team, primarily focused on the synthesis, analysis, and application of self-assembling peptides.
Andrei obtained his master’s degree in 2019 from the University of Manchester in Chemistry with Medicinal Chemistry, before pursuing a PhD in the group of Prof. David Leigh, studying mechanically interlocked molecules such as Wasserman’s catenane and molecular pumps. Upon completion of his PhD in 2023, he pursued further postdoctoral work in Manchester, relating to synthetic organic chemistry. Prior to joining NPL in 2024, Andrei gained further experience in such chemistry at Apex Molecular Ltd, synthesising molecules for the pharmaceutical and biotechnological sectors.
