FEA Software (Abaqus, Ansys, Pafec, LUSAS, Moldflow, Comsol)

Finite element analysis (FEA) is an engineering design tool that can be used to validate design concepts or predict and correct product failure. FEA has become widely used and universally accepted in many industry sectors. NPL has expertise in a wide range of FE software packages such as Abaqus, Lusas, Pafec, Moldflow, Ansys and Comsol.

Each FE package has particular strengths. Abaqus was originally design to address non-linear physics behaviour and as a result has an extensive range of materials models. Lusas has been designed to cater for all types of composite engineering. Pafec is used at NPL for acoustics problems. Moldflow is used for modelling injection molding of plastics. Comsol and Ansys are both multiphysics packages designed to solve coupled phenomena.
