Developments in the bio-medical sciences over recent years have involved increased use of high dose gamma irradiation of samples at cryogenic temperatures. A particular application is the sterilisation of medical devices containing active pharmaceutical or biochemical agents. A requirement for both reference and routine dosimetry at low temperatures has therefore arisen.
