PGI Conference

The Postgraduate Institute for measurement science (PGI) conference brings together experts and practitioners in the field. Now in its third year, the PGI celebrates the success of its unique strategic partnership with the Universities of Surrey and Strathclyde. Hosted this year at the University of Strathclyde's Technology and Innovation Centre, students of the PGI will be among those presenting the latest advances in measurement science.

This conference will be of interest to students, supervisors as well as academic and industry members whose operations and research rely on measurements. Covering themes of:

  • Risk and Uncertainty
  • Policy and Practice
  • Communication and Influence

The delegate pack is now available here

Day 1 of the conference will include keynote speeches, as well as student-led poster sessions and oral presentations (each 12+3 minutes long) from a range of research disciplines. The talks will be attended by many NPL scientists, senior university representatives and interested industry parties, in addition to fellow postgraduate students. All of these groups together will provide an excellent opportunity for networking and establishing new research links.

The keynote speakers from industry and academia covering each theme will be delivered by:

  • Dr Fiona Rayment OBE (Executive Director NIRO, National Nuclear Laboratory) for Risk and Uncertainty through Measurement
  • Lisa Perkins (Director of Research and Innovation at BT) for Communication and Influence through Measurement
  • Prof Liam Blunt (University of Huddersfield, Director of the Centre for Precision Technologies) for Policy and Practice through Measurement

The conference dinner will be held at the National Piping Centre, with drinks and three-course meal, followed by a cèilidh.

On Day 2 there will be a focus on industry, including involvement from: Renishaw and Anatune. The day will include talks from industry leaders and a careers exposition in the afternoon – more details to follow.
