NPL joins the UK Materials for Quantum Network

Network created to support emerging quantum economy with NPL’s JT Janssen, Chief Scientist on the strategic advisory board.

The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) has launched a UK-wide programme called Materials for Quantum Network (M4QN), which will complement the National Quantum Technology Programme (NQTP), of which NPL is a main stakeholder.

The M4QN is jointly led by Imperial College and the University of Manchester, NPL’s participation in the network further helps to strengthen the strategic collaboration with both partners. Its structure is organised into eight material interest groups focused on the key material families and six thematic interest groups covering the main impact related activities (such as industry transfer, policy, early career researchers and international engagement).

NPL is one of the main stakeholders of the M4QN with JT Janssen, NPL’s Chief Scientist becoming a member of the Strategic Advisory Board and Olga Kazakova as Chair of the Spin & Topology Material Interest Group. Several other NPL scientists are also involved in the work of relevant groups.

Olga Kazakova, NPL Fellow, said: “NPL strongly support this initiative, the success of which will provide us and all network partners with opportunities to develop further our research, measurement and applications in support of the NQTP objectives. We anticipate that, by working together, we shall be able to tackle the challenges in this emerging field more efficiently.”
