Dr Nadia Smith joined NPL in 2013, after receiving a BSc, MSc and PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University Complutense of Madrid, Spain. She is a Senior Research Scientist in the Data Science Group at NPL. Nadia is a Visiting Researcher at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences of the University of Surrey, and an Honorary Research Associate at UCL Great Ormond Street Institute of Child Health. She is a Member of the Institute of Mathematics and it Applications (MIMA).
Dr Nadia Smith is a mathematician working on continuous modelling, data analysis and uncertainty evaluation, principally for health and life science applications. Nadia works on quantitative medical imaging problems, develops mathematical models for design of medical equipment and imaging methods, and carries out data analysis in the area of clinical informatics and medical statistics.
Nadia also has experience in modelling experimental and industrial applications, investigating and solving coupled multi-physics problems using partial and ordinary differential equations (PDEs, ODEs), numerical techniques such as finite element and finite difference methods and theoretical modelling in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, asymptotic analysis and systems of PDEs.
