What’s the future for innovation and why is it more important than ever?

Making the most of UK innovation

As the UK’s National Metrology Institute, the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) provides the measurement capability that underpins the UK's prosperity and quality of life.

Our mission is to ensure that our measurement expertise drives the UK’s innovation landscape and is utilised to its utmost to support UK industry, in particular in its current recovery from the COVID-19 lockdown.

Measurement is vital to innovation and the UK’s R&D landscape. NPL has a long track record of supporting UK innovation, a recent example being Celsius Health, a spinout organisation from NPL, who have developed the world’s most accurate thermal imaging platform.

We recognise the importance of science and technology innovation and the need to facilitate the discussion across the public and private sector, to commercialise these technologies for the benefit of society.

Therefore, we are running a series of innovation webinars, hosted by Simon Devonshire OBE, NPL’s Entrepreneur in Residence, to shine a light on untapped innovations. The upcoming webinars on 10th September and 8th October, will showcase excellent examples of innovations, from pioneering cancer diagnosis and treatment, plant-based drugs, vaccines to new fingerprint technology and next generation AI.

UK public sector organisations are now leading and enabling a new generation of radical innovations. Hear from our speakers about their game-changing ideas and the opportunities that can be harnessed to boost UK industry, create new jobs and make a real difference to everyday life.

The expertise found within science laboratories is driving ground-breaking research and development and is a driving force in helping the UK become a leading science superpower.

NPL is committed to supporting the government’s drive to make the UK a great place to work and do business, unleashing new innovative ways of building, making and doing things. All underpinned by the confidence measurement science provides.
