NPL’s CEO elected as a new member of Institute of Physics’ (IOP) Council

Dr Peter Thompson FInstP FREng FRSC, CEO at NPL, has been elected as a new trustee and Council member of the Institute of Physics (IOP), alongside Dr Melissa Uchida MInstP. Dr Thompson and Dr Uchida will take up their posts from 1 October 2022 and will serve a four-year term.

The IOP Council is responsible for providing strategic direction to the organisation and ensuring it delivers the charitable outcomes for which it was set up.

Since joining NPL in 2015, Dr Thompson has overseen the development and growth of the organisation, aligned to the UK’s national challenges. He holds a number of international advisory positions and has a passion for diversity and inclusion in science and engineering, which make him well placed to support the IOP’s goals.
