Semiconductors roundtable | Northern Ireland

Measurement capability and standards research required to support the UK semiconductor industry

Northern Ireland, help us shape the future of the UK semiconductor sector! This December, we're inviting the local semiconductor community to help identify the critical measurement and test standards to drive sector growth.

At the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), we play a vital role in the establishment of national and international standards for semiconductors, ensuring innovations are interoperable, high-quality, reliable and safe. This year, we have conducted a series of workshops to gather insights from key semiconductor stakeholders across the nation. As we approach the final stage of our research, we are turning our attention to Northern Ireland.

Join us Friday 13 December at Queens University Belfast and have your say on what the UK needs to innovate, scale up and secure its semiconductor sector for national international trade.

About the Event

The event will include talks from NPL, the UK Government and the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) with an introductory briefing of discussion themes, followed by interactive break-out sessions.

Your active participation in this event will inform the UK’s position in international discussions and help prioritise the key areas of interest for global pre-standards requirements, which will accelerate the availability of best practice and standards of UK interest.

A wealth of exciting opportunities lies ahead, growing the economy, creating highly skilled jobs and being at the forefront of technology that underpins every aspect of modern life.

10:00 – Arrival & refreshments

10:30 – NPL - Welcome & introduction

10:40 – Importance of semiconductors for Northern Ireland, Northern Irish Government (TBC)

10:50 – Semiconductor strategy update: Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)
