Martin Dury

Senior scientist

Martin Dury is a Senior Scientist within the Optical Radiation Metrology Group. He graduated from the Department of Physics at the University of Reading in 2000 with a BSc Degree. In the field of Optics, he received his MSc and PhD degrees in 2001 and 2006. Martin has worked at NPL since 2006 and gained expertise in photometry, filter radiometry, radiation thermometry and optical dimensional measurement. During this time, he led NPL’s measurements for an international project to establish the transition temperature of high temperature fixed points as references for temperature scales and established a facility to characterise 3D optical scanners used in automotive and aerospace industries. Martin had a brief change of career to teach physics in 2017 and, after gaining his teaching qualification, returned to NPL in 2019 to lead the cryogenic radiometry area. He is a Chartered Physicist, a Member of the Institute of Physics and serves on the CIE technical committee for absolute radiometers.

Currently, Martin is leading the commercial delivery and evolution of the cryogenic radiometer, the NPL-conceived, and globally accepted primary standard for optical radiometry.
