David Shipley

David Shipley

Senior scientist

David received his BSc (Hons) degree in Physics from Imperial College London in 1986, after which he joined the Radiation Dosimetry Group at NPL. He also received a Postgraduate Diploma in Computing for Commerce and Industry from the Open University in 2005.

David was a committee member of the Computational Physics Group of the Institute of Physics for 8 years and is currently a committee member of the UK Monte Carlo User Group (MCNEG). He has led the organisation of three user group conferences and two international workshops at NPL related to Monte Carlo radiation transport modelling receiving an NPL Achievement Award in 2007.

He has published more than 35 technical reports and papers in peer-reviewed journals.

Areas of interest

David Shipley is leading the work on computational modelling in the group, which involves the maintenance and development of numerical simulations based on Monte Carlo techniques of radiation sources and detectors to support the increasing and diverse dosimetry measurements that are carried out. David is also actively involved in the development of new healthcare projects and services relevant to radiotherapy, including linac beam data acquisition, audits, dosimetry for new modalities  (protons, MR guided radiotherapy)  and commissioning of treatment planning systems.
